  • Where are your products made?
All of our products are homemade right here in Philadelphia, PA.
  • How do I take care of a candle?
Allow your candle to burn 2-4 hours giving enough time for the melted wax to reach all sides of the glass to prevent tunneling (creating a hole in the middle of the candle). A full melting pool prevents tunneling, which is access wax build up on the side of your vessels. Never burn a candle for more than 4 hours at a time. Always trim your wick 1/4" - 1/8" after cooling as this allows your candle to burn best. You can do this by easily pinching off the burnt portion, exposing the fresh wood. This ensures that your flame does not smoke, flicker too much or rise too high. Watch out for drafts when choosing a safe place to burn your candle and never leave your candle unattended. Keep burning candles away from children and pets. Stop burning your candle when there is 1/2" wax left in the vessel. Always store your candles in a cool, dark, and dry place away from direct sunlight. Never touch or move a burning candle when the wax is liquid. Place burning candles at least 4 inches apart from one another. Never use water to extinguish our candles.
  • Why am I seeing soot while my candle is burning?
Smoke and soot are natural parts of the burning process. When talking about candles, picture the wax as the fuel of the fire, and the wick as the delivery system. As the wax travels up the wick, it's releasing the scent. To keep the soot to its minimum, it's SUPER important that you trim your wick EACH time before relighting. This can be done with nail clippers, regular scissors or a wick trimmer. You don't have to get fancy, but you do have to trim that wick! An untrimmed wick will lead to issues with your candle (including higher amounts of soot + smoke). Please TRIM YOUR WICK! 😉
  • What type of wicks do you use?
We currently use wooden wicks in our candles. Wooden wicks achieve a fast melt pool formation for quick and excellent hot throw (scent emitted when lit). They also produce a tantalizing crackling sound when burning. Wooden wicks have no mushrooming with little carbon buildup, debris or soot. Wooden wicks are rigid and require no straightening and can be used in all candle types.
  • Why do you use coconut soy wax instead of paraffin? What's the difference?
Coconut-Soy wax is environmentally sustainable. Paraffin wax is commonly used in "big-box stores." Paraffin is produced from petroleum, coal, or shale oils that are linked to carcinogens. They emit fumes like toluene and benzene which is linked to headaches, cancer and respiratory issues like asthma. It is also unsustainable to produce as it is derived from crude oil which is a type of fossil fuel.
  • What is wrong with parabens and phthalates?
Our fragrance oils are paraben and phthalate free. Phthalates are often used to dissolve solvents to produce fragrance oils and as plasticizers in cosmetics. Both parabens and phthalates are linked to reproductive health issues.
  • Why do you use fragrance oils?
We use fragrance oils because they are specifically formulated for use in candles + body products, which is very important to us! We don't want you to put something on your body or in your home that isn't formulated to be used in that way. Fragrance oils also allow for more complex + unique scent profiles. You won't find any single note fragrances in any of our products. Fragrance oils are, oftentimes, more sustainable to produce than the manufacturing process for essential oils. Fragrance oils allow us to keep our prices affordable.
